In the captivating realm of portrait photography, colors wield a profound influence, shaping the emotional resonance of every image. From vibrant hues to subtle tones, each color holds a unique power to evoke emotions and convey narratives. In this blog post, let’s embark on a journey through the mesmerizing landscape of color psychology, as well as the colors that work best underwater, creating beautiful contrasts and making the model the protagonist of the photograph.

Understanding Color Psychology: Color psychology unveils the intricate interplay between colors and human emotions, a phenomenon deeply ingrained in our subconscious. In the realm of portrait photography, color choices serve as silent orchestrators, guiding viewers through a spectrum of feelings and perceptions. Let’s delve into the emotional symphony of some commonly encountered colors.

I´m gonna talk about the colors that I usually recommend to my models when they pose underwater in the cenotes. The background of these places is greenish and brown tones, so I do not suggest using blue, green, brown or black. I recommend flat colors and in all the ranges of the colors that I am going to name. Now, if we take photos out of the water, the colors mentioned above could work.

THE PERFECT COLORS FOR AN UNDERWATER PORTRAIT PHOTO SHOOT

RED: It is the most intense and emotional color. The color of love. The red dress is more visible. Red dress expresses confidence: a person who wears it feels seductive and dominant.

ORANGE: Orange wears creative people and full of energy.

YELLOW: Yellow is cheerful, sunny, and attracts attention. Active people who feel open and young, like to wear yellow.

PINK: The pink color wears people who are gentle and loving and who are full of compassion and understanding. It´s also very femenine.

VIOLET: It represents luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It is a color of royalty. It brings peace and tranquility.

WHITE: Symbolize innocence and purity. White color reflects sunlight and in fashion, it is popular because it is light and neutral. White should be worn by people who would like to be honest, transparent, and receptive to new ideas.

I also do not recommend busy patterns since these underwater photom shoots in the cenotes are carried out in a place with a beautiful natural background  with a lot of decoration. In my next post I will talk about prints that do work in this type of underwater sessions. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to send me a message to resolve any questions!

Please, note that, these are all my recommendations. If you have a dress that for some reason is special to you and it is a color that I do not recommend, we can always add accessories and make it stand out against the background of the cenote. We can use colored fabrics, necklaces, crowns, earrings and much more!
